At the age of ten years old, I wrote my first book about a mice family that lives under a refrigerator, and I have desired to become a writer ever since. Completing the story marked a significant achievement, providing me with ample motivation for the future. The sensation lingers each time I finish a poem or even contemplate a title. Needless to say, I was very pleased with my work and allowed my family members to read it soon after. My passion for writing has become a passion for inspiring, so now I aim to write verses and tales that resonate with both the profound and playful spirits within us through poetry. Over time, though, I have faced challenges that caused me to doubt my ability to write “good” poetry, but I often consider my younger self, who struggled with anger and the effects of holding it in. She could not express herself to others, so she wrote, and wrote, and wrote. Writing became a storage, a secret place that existed wherever she did. The weight of writing was heavy, but it was the only thing I could carry when life got tough.

There came a time when writing no longer served to contain, and I had felt as if there was no one to confide in, but I found God in the midst of chaos, and he gave me purpose and a new reason to write. The girl who struggles with anger became the girl who overcame anger with the strength of God. I started to focus on poetry so every poem became a song to him, and my inspiration comes from his word, the bible. Even after finding God, I continue to change and grow, and I notice that it feels like I am always becoming something, a new thing. I like to think, though, that I am only changing for the better. There is a woman he created for him, and she is me, and, as I grow closer to him, I grow closer to her, learning more about myself every day. I am not becoming a new creation, but I am a new creation in Christ.

Poetry, specifically, has given me ample opportunity to spread the gospel. My relationship with God influences my creative process by way of providing a peerless love-story to write about. When meditating on the bible and praying, I often cling to certain words or scriptures that I come across and this opens up the door for me to draft a poem. Other times, I am touched when reading or hearing about other people’s trials, stories, and testimonies. My poems usually come line by line in my head and I write the lines as they come, exactly how I see them before putting them on paper. Sometimes God gives them to me like this, and other times he helps me clean them up. This entire process is for the benefit of those that I will come in contact with when I arrive at the places my writing will take me. My purpose is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and that is what I plan to do wherever I end up. Through my poetry, I hope to connect with both Christians and non-Christians to tell them more about Jesus because you can never know enough about the person that died for you to have life more abundantly.
